KPSEA 2026: A One-Page Final Review for Each of the 5 Papers

With KPSEA days away, a Grade 6 learner needs a short, calm review, not a mountain of notes. Here is one page per paper: what to review, what to avoid, and how to check.

KPSEA 2026: A One-Page Final Review for Each of the 5 Papers

KPSEA written papers run 26 to 28 October 2026. The rehearsal is on Friday 23 October, and the first session each day starts at 8.30am. Over 1.38 million Grade 6 learners are registered this year.

At this stage a Grade 6 child does not need new notes. They need a short, calm review of each paper, a clear idea of the mistake most likely to cost them marks, and a simple check that shows a parent whether the topic is secure. This page gives you exactly that, one row per paper.

How to use this page at home

  • One paper per evening. Read the row together, do the quick check, and stop. Twenty to thirty minutes is enough for a child of this age.
  • Mark each row with a tick for secure or a circle for shaky.
  • Use the circles for the last few evenings before the rehearsal.

The five papers on one page

PaperWhat to reviewOne common mistakeOne quick check
EnglishReading comprehension, grammar in sentences, vocabulary in contextChoosing an answer that sounds right without checking the passageRead a short passage together and ask your child to point to the line that proves each answer
KiswahiliUfahamu, sarufi, msamiatiPicking a word that looks familiar rather than one that fits the sentenceGive five sentences with a missing word and ask why each answer fits
MathematicsPlace value, the four operations, fractions and decimals, measurement, moneyRushing a calculation and misreading the question, for example adding when it says "how many more"Do three word problems and ask your child to say in their own words what each one is asking before solving it
Science and TechnologyLiving things, the human body and health, the environment, simple machines and energyGuessing from a picture without reading all the optionsAsk your child to explain one science idea to you as if you were a younger sibling

English and Kiswahili

Both language papers reward careful reading. The most common lost mark is an answer chosen because it sounds right, not because the passage says so. Teach the habit of going back to the text every time.

A good evening activity is reading a short story aloud together, then asking three questions. Do it once in English and once in Kiswahili over two evenings. Our English sample questions and maswali ya Kiswahili give you ready material with answers.

Mathematics

Most Grade 6 children lose Mathematics marks to speed, not to lack of knowledge. They see numbers and start calculating before they understand the question. Slowing down by five seconds per question costs very little time and saves a lot of marks.

Ask your child to underline the key words in word problems: total, difference, each, left. These tell them which operation to use. The Mathematics sample paper is a good single timed sitting for practice.

Science and Technology

Science questions often come with a picture or diagram. Children tend to glance at the picture, pick the option that matches what they expect, and move on. Encourage reading every option before choosing, because two options are often close.

The best quick revision for this paper is talking. If your child can explain how plants make food, why we wash our hands or how a lever helps us lift, they understand it. See our Science sample questions for more to try.

Social Studies and Creative Arts

This combined paper covers a lot of ground, which makes it tempting to revise nothing in particular. Pick the reliable marks first: map reading, the compass and the key. Then spend a short session on art and music basics and the main Religious Education teachings your child studied in class.

The Creative Arts and Social Studies sample questions show the kind of mix to expect.

On the answer sheet

Many marks at this level are lost not in knowledge but on the answer sheet itself. Practise shading neatly with an HB pencil, rubbing out cleanly with a good eraser, and checking that each answer sits in the right row. A child who skips a question must also skip the matching row, or every answer after it moves one place out of line.

The rehearsal on Friday 23 October is a good time to settle this. Your child will see the room, the seating and the routine, so the Monday morning feels familiar. Ask them afterwards what surprised them, and talk it through calmly that evening rather than on the morning of the first paper.

What to leave alone now

  • New topics. If it was not taught in class, it is not worth starting now.
  • Long evenings of revision. A tired child remembers less, not more.
  • Comparing with other children. It rarely helps and often worries them.

Sleep, regular meals and a calm home matter as much as any revision this week. Check the KPSEA timetable paper by paper so you know which paper falls on which day.

Frequently asked questions

How long should my Grade 6 child revise each evening now?

Twenty to forty minutes is plenty. Short, focused sessions with a quick check work better than long hours at this age.

Should we do full practice papers this week?

One timed paper per subject is useful if you mark it together and talk about the mistakes. More than that tends to tire a child out before the real thing.

My child panics in Mathematics. What helps?

Start each session with two easy questions they will get right, then one harder one. Confidence grows from success, and it carries into the exam room.

What matters most on the day?

Arriving early, having eaten, with sharpened pencils and a clean eraser. The calmer the morning, the better the child reads the questions.
