Honest note: official Grade 10 placement is decided by KNEC, combining the KJSEA assessment (about 60%) with school-based assessment and earlier records (about 40%), converted to standard scores. This tool is a planning guide based on current performance, not an official prediction.
Rate the learner's usual performance level in each area:
At the end of Grade 9, learners are placed into one of three pathways: STEM (sciences, mathematics, technology), Social Sciences (languages, humanities, business) and Arts & Sports Science (creative arts and sport). In the first KJSEA cohort, placement landed at roughly 51% STEM, 38% Social Sciences and 11% Arts & Sports, so STEM is the most competitive route. Frequently asked questions
Is this the official KJSEA placement result?
No. Official placement is done by KNEC using the KJSEA assessment plus school-based assessment, converted to standard scores. This is a free planning guide based on current performance.
How is the pathway fit worked out?
It weights the learning areas most relevant to each pathway (for example Mathematics and Integrated Science for STEM) against the performance levels you enter, then ranks the three pathways.
My child scored highest for a pathway they dislike. What now?
Interest matters as much as ability. Use the result as one input, then read our subject-combination guide and talk to the learner and their teachers.
Can my child still improve their pathway chances?
Yes. School-based assessment counts for around 40% of placement, so steady Term 2 and Term 3 effort genuinely helps. Use the revision priorities above.
