Before you start
- This is a free set of KPSEA 2026 Integrated Science sample questions for Grade 6: 20 multiple-choice questions, 20 marks, 50 minutes.
- KNEC's paper is called Integrated Science. It carries three learning areas in one booklet: Science and Technology, Agriculture and Nutrition, and Home Science. This set covers all three, in that order.
- The real paper is on Tuesday 27 October 2026, 8.30 a.m. to 10.10 a.m., the longest KPSEA paper at 1 hour 40 minutes.
- Answers, the reason for each, and an answer table are below the questions. Do not scroll down until the 50 minutes are up.
Many parents search for "KPSEA Science and Technology questions" and are surprised to find that there is no paper with that name. Science and Technology is examined inside the KPSEA Integrated Science paper, together with Agriculture and Nutrition and Home Science. Children who revise only "science" tend to lose the soil, crop, food and kitchen-safety questions, which is where marks quietly go. This set gives an original timed practice in the KPSEA format across all three, with every answer explained.
These are original practice questions written by CBC Edu Kenya, not a KNEC paper and not a leaked paper. For a walk-through of the paper itself, read what to expect in KPSEA Integrated Science.
How this set matches the real paper
| Learning area | In our full KPSEA-style papers (40 questions, 1 h 40 min) | In this sample (20 questions, 50 min) |
|---|---|---|
| Science and Technology | Questions 1 to 24 | Questions 1 to 12 |
| Agriculture and Nutrition | Questions 25 to 34 | Questions 13 to 17 |
| Home Science | Questions 35 to 40 | Questions 18 to 20 |
Set a timer for 50 minutes, which is two and a half minutes a question, the same pace as the real paper. Your child shades A, B, C or D in pencil on a small grid numbered 1 to 20.

Answers with explanations
Each question carries 1 mark, for the correct letter only. The explanation says why the answer is right and what mistake leads to each wrong option, so you can go straight back to the sub-strand that needs work.
Science and Technology (questions 1 to 12)
1. C, leaf (1 mark). Leaves make food by photosynthesis, using sunlight, water, carbon dioxide and the green pigment chlorophyll. Roots take in water, the stem carries it, and the flower is for reproduction. Sub-strand: plants, parts and their functions.
2. D, sunlight (1 mark). A seed needs water, warmth and air to germinate; it lives on the food stored inside it until the first leaves appear. Sunlight is needed later, by the growing plant. Mixing up "germination" and "growth" is the trap. Sub-strand: plant reproduction and germination.
3. B, bat (1 mark). Mammals have fur or hair and feed their young on milk. The bat flies, but it is a mammal. The tortoise is a reptile, the frog an amphibian and the ostrich a bird that cannot fly. Sub-strand: classification of animals.
4. C, small intestine (1 mark). Digestion is completed in the small intestine and the digested food passes into the blood there. The large intestine mainly absorbs water. Sub-strand: the digestive system.
5. A, arteries (1 mark). Arteries carry blood away from the heart (A for artery, A for away). Veins bring blood back to the heart, and capillaries join the two. Windpipes carry air, not blood. Sub-strand: the circulatory system.
6. B, the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito (1 mark). Malaria is prevented by sleeping under a treated net and clearing stagnant water where mosquitoes breed. Dirty water spreads diseases such as cholera and typhoid, not malaria. Sub-strand: health and diseases.
7. B, condensation (1 mark). Water vapour in the air touches the cold glass, cools and turns back into liquid water. Evaporation is the opposite: liquid turning into vapour. These two are the pair learners swap most often. Sub-strand: heat and changes of state.
8. C, evaporation (1 mark). Salt dissolves in water, so it passes straight through a filter. Heating the salty water until the water evaporates leaves the salt behind. Filtering works only for solids that do not dissolve, such as sand. Sub-strand: separating mixtures.
9. D, an iron nail (1 mark). Metals conduct electricity. Plastic, dry wood and rubber are insulators, which is why electric wires are covered in plastic. Sub-strand: electricity and electrical safety.
10. B, poor conductors of heat (1 mark). Wood and plastic do not let heat pass through easily, so the handle stays cool enough to hold while the metal pot gets hot. Sub-strand: heat transfer, conductors and insulators.
11. A, brakes stopping the wheel of a bicycle (1 mark). Brakes work because of friction between the brake pads and the wheel. The other options are examples of friction causing a problem: wear and noise. Sub-strand: forces and friction.
12. B, tell a parent or teacher and not share the details (1 mark). Personal details such as a home address and phone numbers are never shared online with strangers. Sending "only" one detail, or deleting the messages afterwards, is still unsafe. Sub-strand: safe and responsible use of digital devices and the internet.
Agriculture and Nutrition (questions 13 to 17)
13. C, clay soil (1 mark). Clay has very fine particles packed closely together, so it holds water for a long time. Sandy soil has large particles and drains quickly. Loam holds a moderate amount, which is why it is best for most crops. Sub-strand: soil types and properties.
14. B, making terraces (1 mark). Terraces are steps cut across a slope that slow down running water, so it cannot carry soil away. Burning and overgrazing leave the soil bare, and ploughing up and down the slope makes channels for water to rush down. Sub-strand: soil and water conservation.
15. B (1 mark). Land is prepared first, then seeds are planted, weeds are removed while the crop grows, and the crop is harvested when mature. Sub-strand: growing crops.
16. C, kid (1 mark). A calf is a young cow, a lamb a young sheep and a foal a young horse or donkey. Sub-strand: domestic animals.
17. A, to reduce the loss of soil water by evaporation (1 mark). Mulch shades the soil so less water evaporates. As the mulch rots it also adds nutrients to the soil and helps control weeds. Sub-strand: soil and water conservation on the farm.
Home Science (questions 18 to 20)
18. B, carbohydrates, such as ugali (1 mark). Carbohydrates are the main energy-giving foods: ugali, rice, bread and potatoes. Proteins build the body, and vitamins and minerals protect it from disease. Sub-strand: food groups and a balanced diet.
19. A, proteins (1 mark). Kwashiorkor comes from too little protein in the diet, and it is prevented by eating foods such as beans, eggs, milk, fish and meat. Lack of vitamin C causes scurvy, a different disease. Sub-strand: deficiency diseases.
20. C, turn off the heat and cover the sufuria with a lid or a damp cloth (1 mark). Covering the pan cuts off the air the fire needs. Water on burning oil makes the fire spread violently, and carrying or fanning a burning pan is dangerous. Sub-strand: kitchen safety.

What the score tells you
Split the score three ways: out of 12 for Science and Technology, out of 5 for Agriculture and Nutrition, and out of 3 for Home Science. A child scoring 10 out of 12 in the first block but 2 out of 5 in the second has not revised the farm and food work, and that is the quickest gain available before 27 October. If most wrong answers came from questions 2, 7 and 8, the problem is mixing up similar words (germination and growth, condensation and evaporation, filtering and evaporating): make a two-column list of these pairs and test it daily. Our KPSEA Science and Technology revision guide lists the rest.
