Best Cambridge IGCSE Schools In Nairobi (2026 Updated List)

If you are choosing an IGCSE school in Nairobi, the choice is wider than most parents realise: over 30 schools in the wider Nairobi metro area now offer Cambridge IGCSE in 2026, spread across three loose tiers by fee and by intake. This list groups the better-known ones by tier and gives you the five questions to ask on every school tour that will tell you more than the brochure ever will.

Tier 1: Premium international schools

Predominantly expat or globally mobile families, English-medium since pre-primary, sports and facilities at international standard. Fees in 2026 are in the KSH 450,000+ per term bracket. Notable Nairobi schools in this tier:

• International School of Kenya (ISK): Kitisuru. AP / IB primary; Cambridge in selected pathways. Strong American-system tilt with Cambridge options.
• German School Nairobi (DSN): Bilingual German / English, Cambridge IGCSE alongside German Abitur pathway.
• Brookhouse (Karen and Runda campuses): established Cambridge primary, IGCSE, AS / A Level. Strong sports and arts infrastructure.
• Peponi School: Boarding-style British curriculum school, Cambridge IGCSE and A Level.

If you can pay this tier, the question is not "is the IGCSE teaching good" (it is) but "is this the campus and peer group I want for my child": those are subjective decisions only you can make.

Tier 2: Established Cambridge schools

Mid-fee, mostly local intake, strong academic results, smaller campuses. Term fees roughly KSH 200,000–400,000 in 2026. This is where most middle-class Kenyan IGCSE families sit. Schools to look at:

• Braeburn Garden Estate: long-established Cambridge school in Nairobi's Garden Estate area, broad subject offering.
• Braeburn Imani International School: Thika Road, dual British / Kenyan curriculum option.
• Hillcrest International School: Karen, full British curriculum from pre-primary through A Level.
• Aga Khan Academy Nairobi: IB-focused but with IGCSE pathways; strong scholarship support for academically strong applicants.
• Banda School: primary-to-prep school in Karen feeding into Cambridge secondaries.
• Crawford International School: South Africa-anchored group with Cambridge IGCSE offering in Nairobi.
• Nairobi Academy: long-established Cambridge programme in the Lavington area.

Tier 3: Value Cambridge schools

Less widely covered but the fastest-growing segment in Kenya. Kenyan-owned schools running Cambridge alongside or instead of CBC, with term fees in the KSH 80,000–180,000 bracket. The Cambridge qualification delivered is the same: what differs is the campus and class size.

This tier is large and growing: over 100 schools nationwide are now registered as Cambridge International centres in Kenya per Cambridge's own register. The five questions to actually ask on the school tour

Tour brochures are designed to impress. Here are the questions that get you the real picture:

1. "What was your IGCSE A* to A pass rate in the most recent November session, by subject?": Any school that can not give you this number, by subject, is hiding something. Cambridge publishes school-level data and schools have it on hand.
2. "How many of your Year 10 students moved on to Year 11 last year? And how many of your Year 11 students sat all their entered subjects?": Drop-out and subject-drop rates tell you more about teaching quality than headline pass rates.
3. "What is the average class size in Year 10 and Year 11 Maths and Sciences?": Numbers above 25 in these subjects in Year 11 are a warning sign. Cambridge papers reward individual attention.
4. "What are your Cambridge exam-entry fees per subject in 2026? Are they bundled in school fees or billed separately?": If they are billed separately and the school can not quote the number for the upcoming session, the finance office is not on top of it.
5. "How many of your IGCSE teachers in the core subjects (Maths, Sciences, English) have taught the Cambridge syllabus for at least 3 years?": Cambridge teaching is a specific skill. Teachers who have come straight from the 8-4-4 system without retraining miss things on the paper that experienced Cambridge teachers do not.

The questions parents commonly forget to ask

• Sibling and family discounts. Most schools offer 5–15% off for siblings; many do not advertise it.
• Currency exposure. Some premium schools effectively price in USD. Ask if fees are renegotiated annually with exchange rate.
• Transport. A school bus from Lavington to Karen and back is real time and real money. Ask about routes and cost before you commit.
• The exit pathway. Where do their A Level graduates actually go? UK, US, Kenya, mix? This tells you which support systems (UCAS, Common App, KUCCPS) they actually have.
