Is French compulsory in Grade 7?
No. French is one of the optional foreign language learning areas in Junior School. Schools that offer it teach it as an optional subject, so this pack is for learners who take French at their school or who are learning it with a tutor.

Does this Grade 7 French pack follow the CBC curriculum?
Yes. The questions are organised by the strands and themes of the KICD Junior Secondary French Grade 7 curriculum design (first published 2022): Listening and Speaking, Reading, Writing and Language Structures. The themes covered are social interaction, immediate family, our room, media, school, shopping, hobbies and health.

How do we do the listening and speaking parts at home?
A parent, sibling or teacher reads the short listening text from the marking scheme booklet, twice and slowly. For the speaking tasks the learner says the answer aloud (recording it on a phone helps) and scores it with the speaking checklist in the booklet. No audio file is needed.

Does the pack include answers and a marking scheme?
Yes. A separate marking scheme gives model answers for all 35 questions, the mark for each, criteria for the writing tasks, a score sheet and the four-level CBC rubric (Exceeding, Meeting, Approaching and Below Expectation) for each strand.
