What you get, one by one

Six things come with every Academy plan.

1

4 live lessons every week

Not a video library. A real teacher teaches in real time, four times a week, on a timetable that repeats so your child gets into a rhythm. Your child can ask the question they were afraid to ask at school and get it answered on the spot.

2

2 hours in every lesson

Two hours is long enough to teach a topic properly, practise it and fix mistakes in the same sitting. That is 8 hours of live teaching a week, or 32 hours in a one-month plan.

3

Notes after every class

After each lesson you get notes covering what was taught. Your child reads them the same evening, and uses them again before the next lesson.

4

Access to CBC materials

For the weeks you pay for, we share CBC study materials for your child's grade and subjects: notes, practice and exam papers with marking schemes from the CBC Edu Kenya library. They are sent on WhatsApp, so there is nothing to log in to.

5

Revision packs

Tell us the subjects your child finds hardest and we send the matching revision first. Use them between lessons, and again in the last days before school reopens.

6

Somo AI for 7 days

An AI study helper built for the Kenyan CBC, for practice between lessons. You will find exactly what it is, and what it is not, in the Somo section below.

Which plan should I choose?

There is no wrong answer, because the weekly rhythm is the same in every plan. Only the length changes.

1 week: try it

4 lessons, 8 hours. A good first step if you want to see the teacher, the class and Somo before you commit to more.

2 weeks: build a habit

8 lessons, 16 hours. Long enough to finish a topic block and to see how your child responds to regular live teaching.

1 month: the full holiday

16 lessons, 32 hours for KSh 12,000 (CBC) or KSh 24,000 (IGCSE). The same price per hour as the weekly plan, with the whole holiday covered and a steady timetable.

A sample week, day by day

An example of how a week can run. Your exact days and class times are confirmed on WhatsApp after you enrol.

  • MondayLive lesson 1

2 hours with the teacher. New topic taught, worked examples, practice questions. Notes arrive after class.

  • TuesdayLive lesson 2

2 hours with the teacher. A different subject or the next part of the topic. Questions from Monday's notes answered first.

  • WednesdayStudy day

Read the notes again, finish the practice questions, and ask Somo AI about anything that is still unclear. Write down questions for the teacher.

  • ThursdayLive lesson 3

2 hours with the teacher. Recap of the week so far, then new content and exam-style questions.

  • FridayLive lesson 4

2 hours with the teacher. Finish the week's topics, go through mistakes, set the revision for the weekend.

  • SaturdayRevision

Work through the revision pack we sent for your child's hardest subject. A short, steady session beats a long, tired one.

  • SundayRest and check

Rest. Parents can look at the notes, ask three quick questions about the week and check the timetable for the coming week.

This is an example week, not a fixed timetable. Four of the seven days are live lessons; the other days are study and rest.

What a 2-hour session looks like

A typical shape for one lesson. Teachers adjust it to the class and the subject.

How the 120 minutes of a lesson are used Bar split into seven parts: 10 minutes welcome and recap, 35 minutes teaching, 20 minutes worked examples, 10 minutes break, 30 minutes practice questions, 10 minutes questions, 5 minutes homework and notes. Total 120 minutes. The 120 minutes of one lesson 10 35 20 10 30 15 Minutes: recap 10, teach 35, examples 20, break 10, practice 30, questions and wrap-up 15. Total 120.

  1. 0 to 10Welcome and recap. The teacher checks last lesson's notes and answers leftover questions.
  2. 10 to 45Teaching. The new topic, explained step by step on screen, tied to the CBC strand or the IGCSE syllabus point.
  3. 45 to 65Worked examples. The teacher solves examples aloud so your child sees how marks are earned.
  4. 65 to 75Short break. Water, stretch, screen rest.
  5. 75 to 105Practice. Your child tries questions and the teacher checks answers live.
  6. 105 to 120Questions and wrap-up. Anything still unclear is asked now, then the teacher says what to read before next time. Notes follow after class.

Somo AI for 7 days: what it is

Included in the package

Somo is CBC Edu Kenya's AI study helper, built for the Kenyan CBC. Your child asks a question and Somo answers it against the CBC curriculum, in English or Kiswahili, in language that suits the grade. It explains step by step and asks your child to try first, so it practises with them instead of just handing over answers.

  • Answers curriculum questions for CBC and IGCSE learners
  • Explains step by step, and asks your child to try before giving the answer
  • Language that fits the grade; English or Kiswahili
  • Practice questions, and a mode for Grade 9 KJSEA preparation
  • Works in the phone browser and can be added to the home screen

How the 7 days work. Add your child's phone number on the Somo page to start the 7-day trial: 30 messages a day for 7 days, no payment and no card. If your child likes it, Somo Premium is KSh 300 for 30 days, paid once by M-Pesa with no auto-renewal. Stuck? Message us on WhatsApp and we will walk you through it.

What Somo is not. It is not a teacher and it is not a substitute for the live lessons. It is an AI and can make mistakes, so important answers should be checked with the teacher or the notes.

Who it is for, and who it is not for

A good fit if

  • Your child is in CBC Grades 4 to 10, or is an IGCSE student
  • You want a teacher, not a video, so questions get answered
  • You want a steady holiday routine instead of a long gap
  • Your child needs help with Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, the sciences or Business Studies
  • You want notes and revision sent after class

Not the right fit if

  • You want recordings only, to watch at any time
  • Your child cannot join a live session at the class time
  • You are looking for a guaranteed grade (nobody can honestly promise that)
  • Your child is in PP1 to Grade 3; ask us about other help

Parent checklist before the first class

Ten minutes of preparation makes the first class easier.

  • A phone, tablet or laptop with Chrome, charged, for the whole 2 hours.
  • Enough data for 2 hours of live class. Ask us if you are unsure.
  • Earphones, in a quiet corner with a table.
  • An exercise book and a pen. IGCSE: a calculator and a past paper.
  • Your child's grade and the subjects they want, ready to send on WhatsApp.
  • Two or three topics your child finds hardest, so we send that revision first.
  • The class link, once we send it, saved on your phone, and the class time in the calendar.
  • Your M-Pesa ready for the plan you chose.
  • A plan for after class: read the notes the same evening.
  • Somo started on your phone number, so the 7 days begin when you want them to.

Questions parents ask

Twenty answers, in plain words.

What is the Holiday Learning Academy?

It is CBC Edu Kenya's live online holiday school for CBC learners (Grades 4 to 10) and IGCSE students. Learners join real teachers on a phone or laptop for 4 live lessons a week, each 2 hours long, with notes after every class, study materials and revision, and Somo AI for 7 days.

How many lessons are there each week, and how long is each one?

There are 4 live online lessons a week and every lesson is 2 hours long. That is 8 hours of live teaching a week. A 2-week plan has 8 lessons (16 hours) and a one-month plan has 16 lessons (32 hours).

How much does the Academy cost?

CBC is KSh 3,000 for 1 week, KSh 6,000 for 2 weeks and KSh 12,000 for a month. IGCSE is double: KSh 6,000 for 1 week, KSh 12,000 for 2 weeks and KSh 24,000 for a month. You pay by M-Pesa.

Why is IGCSE double the CBC price?

IGCSE classes follow the Cambridge syllabus, are taught subject by subject in small live groups and work through past papers and mark schemes, so each IGCSE plan covers one subject and is priced at double the CBC plan. The CBC plan covers your child's CBC subjects for the grade.

Which grades and subjects are covered?

CBC: Grades 4 to 10, with Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, Social Studies and Business Studies. Grade 4 to 6 groups open as they fill, so tell us your child's grade on WhatsApp and we confirm the group. IGCSE: Mathematics (0580), English First Language (0500), Biology (0610), Chemistry (0620), Physics (0625) and Business Studies (0450). For another subject, ask us.

Are the lessons live or recorded?

Live. A real teacher teaches in real time and your child can ask questions during the lesson. These are not recorded videos and the teacher is not an AI.

What does my child need to join?

A smartphone, tablet or laptop with the Chrome browser and a normal data bundle. There is no app to install. Earphones, a quiet corner, an exercise book and a pen help. IGCSE students should also have a calculator and a past paper to hand.

Is it one-on-one or a group?

It is a small live group, so every learner gets a turn to speak and ask. Private one-on-one coaching can be arranged separately on WhatsApp.

What if my child misses a lesson?

Tell us on WhatsApp before the lesson if you can. The timetable repeats every week and the teacher recaps, and the plan counts from the first lesson your child attends, so nothing is lost by enrolling in the middle of a week.

Do we get notes after the lesson?

Yes. Notes are sent after every class, so your child has a written record of what was taught and can revise from it before the next lesson.

What study materials and revision packs are included, and how do we get them?

For the weeks you pay for, we share CBC study materials and revision packs for your child's grade and subjects. They are sent to you on WhatsApp after each class, so there is no login to remember. Tell us the subjects your child finds hardest and we send the matching revision first.

What is Somo AI and how do the 7 days work?

Somo is CBC Edu Kenya's AI study helper, built for the Kenyan CBC. It answers curriculum questions in English or Kiswahili, explains step by step and asks your child to try before it gives the answer. Somo AI for 7 days is part of the Academy package: 30 messages a day for 7 days. You start it on the Somo page with your phone number (the 7-day trial), or message us on WhatsApp and we will help you start it.

Can Somo replace the teacher?

No. Somo is an AI helper for practice between lessons. It can make mistakes, so children should check important answers with their teacher or their notes. The live lessons are taught by real teachers.

How do I enrol and pay?

Send ACADEMY (CBC) or IGCSE on WhatsApp to 0711 344 702, or leave your number in the call-back form and we call you within the hour (8am to 9pm). We confirm the class group, timetable and price for your child. You then pay by M-Pesa and your child joins from the link.

When does it start?

We have not published a fixed start date. After you message us we confirm the class group and the timetable on WhatsApp, and your plan counts from your child's first attended lesson.

Who are the teachers?

They are real teachers who teach live. Brian Omega teaches Mathematics, English and Science. Ask us on WhatsApp about the teacher for your child's subject and grade.

Can a parent sit in on a lesson?

Yes. The class opens in the browser, so you can sit beside your child. Many parents do, especially for younger learners.

Can we try one class first?

For IGCSE you can try one live session for KSh 1,500. For CBC, ask us on WhatsApp what we can arrange for your child's grade.

Do you guarantee grades or exam results?

No. We do not promise results. What we promise is the package as described here: 4 live lessons a week of 2 hours each, notes after every class, study materials and revision, and Somo AI for 7 days. Results depend on practice, attendance and the learner.

What happens to my name and phone number?

We use the name and number you give us only to call you back about the Academy and to confirm your child's class. See the privacy policy for how CBC Edu Kenya handles personal data.
