KJSEA Kiswahili 902/1: Fifty Multiple Choice Questions and How to Attack Them

Kiswahili Lugha is paper 902/1. It is 50 multiple choice questions in 1 hour 40, sat on Tuesday 27 October, and it is followed the same day by 902/2, Insha na Utangulizi wa Fasihi.

Two hours minus twenty minutes across fifty questions gives roughly two minutes each. That sounds generous until you notice that a comprehension passage can swallow fifteen minutes on its own.

What the paper covers

The order to answer in

Do not work strictly front to back. The most reliable approach in a fifty question multiple choice paper is three passes.

1. First pass. Answer everything you know immediately. Do not pause on anything. This usually clears more than half the paper in under thirty minutes.
2. Second pass. Return to questions needing thought, including the comprehension.
3. Third pass. Fill every remaining blank with your best guess. There is no negative marking, so a blank is simply a lost chance.

The single biggest cause of unfinished papers is a child who refuses to leave question seven until it is solved. Two minutes on a hard question is fine. Six minutes is four questions lost elsewhere.

Ngeli deserve dedicated time

Noun classes are the foundation of Kiswahili grammar and they leak into almost every sarufi question. A child who is unsure of ngeli will keep getting agreement questions wrong without understanding why.

Revise them as a table with the class, an example noun, and the agreement in both singular and plural. Then practise by writing full sentences rather than filling gaps, because gaps can be guessed from surrounding words in a way that a full sentence cannot.

Methali and nahau are free marks

Proverbs and idioms are pure recall, which makes them the most efficient revision in the paper. Ten minutes a day for a month covers a great deal of ground.

Learn them in pairs of meaning and use. Knowing that a proverb exists is not enough, because questions usually ask which proverb fits a described situation.

Ufahamu: read the questions first

For the comprehension section, read the questions before the passage. It turns reading into a search rather than a general absorption, and it is worth several minutes.

Answers to comprehension questions are in the passage. Where a child has to choose between two plausible options, the correct one can almost always be traced to a specific line.

Two Kiswahili papers in one day

902/1 and 902/2 are both on Tuesday 27 October. Insha requires sustained writing after a paper that required sustained concentration. Practise them back to back at least twice before the exam, because that combination is genuinely tiring and the second paper carries composition marks.
