KJSEA Creative Arts 911 and Pre Technical 912: Projects Done, Papers Left

Creative Arts and Sports and Pre Technical Studies are assessed in two parts each. The project components were assessed between May and July 2026. The written papers are sat in the October week.

That split shapes everything a Grade 9 family should do between now and the end of October. One half of each learning area is finished and can only be checked. The other half is still open, and revision affects it directly. This guide takes them in that order.

First, confirm the projects were recorded

Project marks feed into School Based Assessment, which carries 40 percent of the KJSEA grade. Because projects are assessed outside normal lesson time, and sometimes by a teacher who has since changed class, they are the component most likely to be sitting in a file rather than in a submission.

One message to the class teacher asking for written confirmation that 911/1, 912/2 and 906/2 marks were submitted for your child is the highest value thing a parent can do this month. Our guide to the 40 percent already banked explains why this cannot be fixed after results day.

A message you can send

Keep it short and polite. Teachers receive many messages in Term 3, and a clear one gets a clear answer. Something like:

"Good afternoon, teacher. I am the parent of [name], Grade 9 [class]. Kindly confirm that the project marks for Creative Arts and Sports, Pre Technical Studies and Agriculture were submitted for my child. Thank you."

Send it before schools close on Friday 23 October, while teachers are still in school and records are easy to reach. If the reply is unclear, ask at the school office or raise it at a parents' meeting. Our list of questions to ask teachers this term includes this one.

Revising 911/2, Creative Arts and Sports written

The written paper tests the understanding behind the practical work rather than the practical skill itself. Expect questions on:

• Elements and principles, and being able to name them precisely rather than describe them loosely.
• Materials, tools and techniques, including safe and correct use.
• Rules, officiating and basic organisation in sports.
• Health, safety and the value of participation.

Because the project is finished, the most efficient revision is to use it. Have your child explain what they made or performed, what choices they made and why, and what they would change. Almost every written question can be answered from that reflection, and it is far more memorable than notes.

Turning the project into revision

Sit with your child for fifteen minutes and ask these questions, letting them answer aloud before writing short notes:

1. What did you make, perform or organise?
2. Which materials or tools did you use, and why those ones?
3. Which elements or principles did you use? Name them.
4. What safety steps did you take?
5. What went wrong, and what would you do differently?

The answers become a one page sheet in your child's own words. That sheet, plus the class notes for the topics not covered by the project, is a strong base for the written paper.

For sports topics, a useful habit is to pick one game your child knows well and list its basic rules, the officials involved and the equipment. Repeat for a second game. Rules and officiating questions reward exactly that kind of specific recall.

Revising 912/1, Pre Technical Studies written

Pre Technical is the last full written paper of the week, sat on Friday 30 October alongside Religious Education and the Science practical paper. Expect:

• Tools, their correct names and their correct uses.
• Materials and their properties.
• Workshop safety, which is reliably examined and easily revised.
• Simple drawing, measurement and interpretation of diagrams.
• Basic entrepreneurship and business ideas as applied to technical work.

Precision of vocabulary matters here. A tool described by what it does, rather than named, usually does not score.

A tools and safety drill (practice, not an official KNEC format)

Drawing questions reward neatness and accuracy. A sharp pencil, a ruler and a few minutes of practice on simple shapes and labelled sketches make a visible difference. If your child's school uses a particular textbook, revise the tool and material names exactly as that book spells them.

Both papers reward diagrams

Where a diagram is asked for, draw it. Label it. Use a pencil and a ruler. A labelled diagram often carries marks that a paragraph of description does not, and it takes less time to produce.

Conversely, where a diagram is not asked for, do not spend five minutes drawing one.

Labels should be printed clearly, with label lines drawn using a ruler and touching the part being named. A beautiful drawing with unclear labels can score less than a simple one with accurate labels.

Do not let the last day drift

Both of these papers fall in the second half of a long week, 911/2 on the crowded Thursday and 912/1 on the final Friday. Each still carries the same 8 points as every other learning area toward the 72 point total.

Practise at least once by sitting one of these papers immediately after another paper. Tiredness mistakes, such as misreading a question or leaving one out, appear most often late in the week, and rehearsal reduces them.
