Grade 8 is the year before KJSEA, and the national assessment at the end of Grade 9 draws on work from Grades 7, 8 and 9. That makes the Grade 8 notes your child builds this term part of their KJSEA preparation, not just end of year revision. This page puts every Grade 8 learning area's notes in one place, with what each set contains and a simple plan for the rest of Term 3.
Why Grade 8 notes matter more than they look
Many parents treat Grade 8 as a quiet year. It is not. KJSEA tests all nine learning areas, and a large share of the content was first taught in Grade 8. A learner who finishes Grade 8 with a clean, complete set of notes starts Grade 9 revising rather than catching up. Our guide to what KJSEA tests from Grade 8 explains the link in detail.

A four week Term 3 plan for Grade 8
| Week | Focus | Time each evening |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Mathematics and Integrated Science: read one topic from the notes, then do its practice questions without looking | 40 minutes |
| Week 2 | English and Kiswahili: one comprehension or composition task, marked against the scheme | 40 minutes |
| Week 3 | Social Studies, Pre-Technical, Agriculture, Religious Education: one strand each, summarised on a single page | 30 minutes |
| Week 4 | One full end of term paper per core subject, timed, then go back to the notes for every mark lost | 60 minutes, three evenings |
How to make notes stick
- Read, close, recall. After a topic, close the notes and have your child write down what they remember. What is missing is what to reread.
- Practice questions before the answers. Every set of notes above has answers. Cover them until the attempt is finished.
- Keep the one-page summaries. They become the Grade 9 revision sheets next year, which is exactly when KJSEA pressure starts.

Common questions from Grade 8 parents
Does Grade 8 sit a national exam this year?
No. Grade 8 is assessed in school this term. The national assessment, KJSEA, is at the end of Grade 9, and this year's Grade 9 candidates sit it from 26 to 30 October.
My child has notes from school. Do they need these?
Only if the school notes have gaps. Compare the two for one learning area first. If your child's own book is incomplete or hard to read, a clean set saves them rewriting it next year.
Which subject should we start with?
The one your child scored lowest in on the last school report. Mathematics and Integrated Science usually carry the most marks lost to gaps, so they are a sensible default.
