Grade 1, 2 and 3 End of Term 3 Exams 2026: What to Practise at Home

There is no national exam in lower primary, but end of Term 3 decides readiness for the next grade. Ten minutes a day on the right things makes the difference.

Grade 1, 2 and 3 End of Term 3 Exams 2026: What to Practise at Home

End of Term 3 is the last assessment of the school year for Grade 1, 2 and 3 learners, and it is the one teachers use to judge whether a child is ready to move up. There is no national exam at this level. Assessment is done by the class teacher, through short written tasks, oral questions, reading aloud and observation. The good news for parents is that ten or fifteen minutes a day at home, on the right things, makes a visible difference before schools close for the long holiday.

How lower primary learners are assessed in Term 3

Teachers record each learner against four levels for every learning area: Exceeding Expectations, Meeting Expectations, Approaching Expectations and Below Expectations. A child is not ranked against classmates. What matters is whether they can do the skill on their own, which is why short, regular practice at home helps more than a long session the night before.

What to practise at home, learning area by learning area

Learning areaWhat to practiseA ten minute activity
EnglishReading aloud with expression, spelling common words, writing a short sentenceYour child reads one page aloud, then tells you what happened in their own words
KiswahiliKusoma kwa sauti, msamiati wa kila siku, kuandika sentensi fupiName ten items in the kitchen in Kiswahili, then write three of them in a sentence
MathematicsNumber work, addition and subtraction, simple multiplication in Grade 2 and 3, money, time and measurementShopping game with real coins: "You have 50 shillings, bread is 35. How much is left?"
Environmental ActivitiesWeather, plants and animals, keeping clean, safety at home and on the roadWalk around the compound and name what plants need to grow
Religious EducationStories, values and prayers taught this termYour child retells one story from class and says what lesson it teaches
Creative ActivitiesDrawing, singing, movement and simple craftsDraw and colour a picture of the family, then describe it

A two week plan that fits into busy evenings

DayFocus (10 to 15 minutes)
MondayReading aloud in English, then five spelling words
TuesdayMathematics: one page of practice questions, checked together
WednesdayKiswahili reading and five new words
ThursdayEnvironmental Activities or Religious Education: talk through one topic, then answer three questions
FridayMixed quiz from the week, with a small reward for effort, not only for correct answers
WeekendSomething creative and one storybook read together

Reading is the skill every other learning area depends on. Our 15 minute reading routine shows how to do it without a fight.

Practice papers with answers, so you can check at home

Most parents do not have time to write questions. These packs do it for you, with an answer key on its own page so you can mark your child's work in a few minutes:

GradeAll subjects packTerm 3 Complete Bundle
Grade 1Grade 1 package, KSh 250Grade 1 Term 3 bundle, KSh 300
Grade 2Grade 2 package, KSh 250Grade 2 Term 3 bundle, KSh 300
Grade 3Grade 3 package, KSh 250Grade 3 Term 3 bundle, KSh 300

Each all subjects pack opens with a revision PDF where every learning area has multiple choice questions, short answer questions and a full answer key, and then delivers the grade's notes, revision papers, exams and marking schemes. The Term 3 Complete Bundle adds a combined learning pack for the whole year in one file. Either works as end of year revision; pick one, not both.

Three things that matter more than any paper

  • Sleep. A tired seven year old cannot show what they know in a reading task.
  • Talk to the teacher. Ask which learning area your child is "Approaching Expectations" in. That is where the next two weeks should go.
  • Praise effort. Children this age work for encouragement. A child who enjoys the ten minutes will do them every day.

For the bigger picture of what each year covers, read our Grade 1 parent guide and Grade 3 foundations guide, or open the Grade 3 page for every resource at this level.
