You can describe a picture in words, and AI will DRAW it. You can say "a Kenyan elephant wearing a superhero cape flying over Mount Kenya at sunset" — and in 10 seconds, you see it. You could not have drawn that by hand in an hour. This is real, and it is free (with parent permission) at tools like ChatGPT Plus, Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot.

How AI art works — in simple words

Remember from Lesson 2: AI learns by looking at lots of examples. Image-AI tools learned by looking at billions of pictures from the internet, with descriptions next to each one. After all that training, the AI knows what "elephant" looks like, what "superhero cape" looks like, and what "Mount Kenya at sunset" looks like. When you ask for all of them combined, the AI builds a new picture by putting the pieces together.

It's not copying any one picture. It's generating a brand new one from the patterns. That's why AI art is often weird and surprising — it's combining things no human had painted together before.

Writing a great image prompt (try these rules)

1. Describe the subject: "A Kenyan schoolgirl in uniform…"
2. Describe what they're doing: "…reading under a big mango tree…"
3. Describe the setting: "…in a village in Machakos at golden hour…"
4. Describe the style: "…in a warm watercolour painting style."

Put them together: "A Kenyan schoolgirl in uniform reading under a big mango tree in a village in Machakos at golden hour, in a warm watercolour painting style."

Boom. Click generate. 10 seconds. You have art.

Important rules for AI art

1. Don't make pictures of real people without their permission. Especially don't make pictures of your classmates doing embarrassing things. That's called a deepfake and it's cruel.
2. Don't use AI art to pretend something real happened. If you didn't see Mount Kilimanjaro erupt, don't make a fake picture and post it saying it happened. That's lying.
3. Credit AI when you use the art. If your school project uses an AI-generated picture, write "Image generated with AI (ChatGPT / Gemini)." Be honest.

AI can also write stories and make music

Ask ChatGPT: "Write me a 200-word bedtime story about a brave girl in Kisumu who can talk to fish." You'll get a unique, personal story.

Try Suno.ai or similar (with parent permission): type "A happy Swahili-style lullaby about the stars" and AI will generate music. Actual singing. It's weird. It's cool.
